Lady Gaga Ditches Target Over Political Issues

Looks like Lady Gaga will NOT be having a Target exclusive special edition of her upcoming album Born This Way come May 23rd. Gaga and Target were in talks of a partnership, but it seems the deal has fizzled reportedly because of political differences on gay rights.

It's been reported that Gaga has backed out of the deal because of the store’s history of supporting and donating to politicians with an anti-gay rights agenda.

According to a source for The Advocate, "[Gaga] and Target didn't see eye to eye on Target's policy of political donations and how they affect the LGBT community."

Should have seen that one coming - it was only a matter of time. Remember last month when a lot of people took issue over her partnership with Target?

Last year, it was revealed that Target had donated corporate funds to MN Forward, a political action committee that supported anti-LGBT Minnesota gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer.

Target's support for an anti-gay group is, of course, in direct conflict with Gaga's personal politics on LGBT issues. The pop star has been a longtime gay rights advocate, and last year she spoke at political demonstrations in Maine urging senators there to support a repeal of the military's now-defunct Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, which barred openly gay soldiers from serving in the military.

Last month Gaga talked to Billboard magazine about the discussion to partner with the retail superstore.

"That discussion was one of the most intense conversations I've ever had in a business meeting. Part of my deal with Target is that they have to start affiliating themselves with LGBT charity groups and begin to reform and make amends for the mistakes they've made in the past ... our relationship is hinged upon their reform in the company to support the gay community and to redeem the mistakes they've made supporting those [antigay] groups."

Guess Gaga wasn't comfortable with the deal after all, and decided to end it.

Do you think that dissolving her deal with Target was a smart move on Gaga's part? And will you be more inclined to buy her album now?
