Zach Galifianakis may play aloof, jolly Alan in The Hangover and The Hangover Part II, but the funnyman can often be less than jolly at times. In his cover story interview with Rolling Stone for this month's issue, Zach slams everyone from Ke$ha and Britney Spears to Eliza Dushku and Sean Penn.
On Eliza Dushku: Zach's longest job was on the Fox drama Tru Calling starring Eliza Dushku. Unhappy with his job, he tried his hardest to get fired. He’d tell Eliza she was eating her way to cancellation, or he'd stand up after a table read and say to the writer, “Great script, Karen,” and throw the script in the trash.
On Ke$ha: "I saw that Ke$ha woman the other day," Zach explains. Ke$ha (who revealed her crush on Zach in 2010) had previously contacted him about meeting for a drink. Several days later, he ran into her at a bar: "She was sitting by herself, and I walked up to her and said, 'Listen, I got your e-mail. Your music is really bad! I don't know who listens to it, but I imagine it's, like, six-year-olds -- and it's a bad message.'"
On Sean Penn: When Sean Penn called to offer him a role in Into the Wild, Zach told him he had an appointment at Arby’s and to "send my Jews the script."
On Britney Spears: Zach got hired to write for Saturday Night Live at one point. Britney Spears was the musical guest and he pitched a sketch in which Britney was being interviewed by Entertainment Tonight when she suddenly, and without explanation, began bleeding from the mouth. She didn't find the idea funny. "I remember staring at the ground for, like, 20 seconds, just silent. 45,000 open mics, and I'm trying to impress this 18-year old pop star." Needless to say he lasted two weeks at the job.
