Which Competition Movie Is Your Favorite?

With Pitch Perfect just one day away from hitting the theaters (one week early!), it's got us thinking about similar movies. Those who have seen it compare it to Bring It On and Glee - two competition-driven projects. When you think about it, many of the great teen flicks are competition ones - from Bring It On to Sister Act 2 to Raise Your Voice... and more!

	Bandslam This musical rom-com revolves around musically talented Will (Gaelyn Connell) and Charlotte (Aly Michalka) who form an unlikely bond over their mutual love of music. Together they assemble a band of misfits, form a rock band and compete in a Battle of the Bands entitled “Bandslam.” Vanessa Hudgens also stars in the film.
	Bring It On In this cult classic movie about rival cheerleading teams, team captain Torrance Shipman (Kirsten Dunst) has a lot to deal with: filling an open spot after a fellow cheerleader gets hurt, dealing with a shady boyfriend, and finding out that all of her team’s routines are stolen from another team! What’s a girl to do? Luckily she’s got Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Eliza Dushku and cutie Jesse Bradford behind her. Sassy cheerleaders, a character named “Big Red” and arguably Kirsten Dunst’s most fun role of her career - what more could you ask for?!
	Camp Rock Former real-life loves Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas star as teens with amazing voices in this Disney Channel Original Movie. In the flick, Joe’s a spoiled pop star named Shane Gray who is assigned to teach dance classes at camp and is forced to record a song with the winner of the Winter Jam. Demi plays Mitchie, a caterer’s aspiring musician daughter who attends the camp in return for her mother’s catering. In a very Cinderella-esque manner, Shane catches Mitchie singing and falls for the voice, but doesn’t know her identity. Add in some mean girls and some supportive camp friends as well as a revealing final competition and you’ve got a movie that rocks!
	Drumline In this beat-heavy flick, Nick Cannon stars as Devon, a college band drummer with a bad attitude who also can’t read music. Devon learns he needs to change his attitude if he wants to work with his college band, but not before starting a fight on the field during a game, messing things up with his love interest (Zoe Saldana), compromising his spot on the team and at school. But if we know Nick Cannon well enough, he can always make the situation better... and he does.
	Gotta Kick It Up! This Disney Channel Original Movie (which starred America Ferrera, Camille Guaty, and Sabrina Weiner) was a peppy flick based on a true story about a middle school dance team who were almost cut from the school until a kind-hearted Biology teacher decides to be their coach. The tag line for Gotta Kick It Up!: “Si, se puede!”
	Raise Your Voice It’s definitely not quite Lizzie McGuire! This Hilary Duff-fronted flick tackles the themes of drunk-driving, the loss of a loved one, bullying and parental approval - definitely some heavy stuff there! Nonetheless, the movie is a sweet drama about a teen (Hilary) with a passion for singing who has been accepted to a music program in Los Angeles to compete for a $10,000 scholarship. Add in a cute boy (Oliver James) and mean girl (Lauren C. Mayhew) and you've got something to sing about. Bonus: Our girl Kat Dennings is in it!
	Sister Act 2: Back In the Habit The sequel to the original 1992 movie, Sister Act, brought back star Whoopi Goldberg as Las Vegas lounge singer-turned-faux nun named Sister Mary Clarence - and this time she’s directing a high school choir! With Lauryn Hill, City High’s Ryan Toby and Jennifer Love Hewitt in the choir, how could they NOT win?!
	Stick It From the writers of Bring It On, Stick It follows the competitive world of gymnastics. In this comedy/drama, former gymnast Haley (Missy Peregrym) has a run-in with the law and is forced to return to the world of competitive gymnastics, a world she walked away from, costing her American team the gold medal, making her one of the most hated people in gymnastics. With no choice, she has to come back but not without the help of her new coach (Jeff Bridges) and eventually supportive teammates, including Glee’s Vanessa Lengies. Bonus: Twilight hunk Kellan Lutz is in it!
